Getting to Know the Omicron Variant Corona Virus

The Omicron variant is a type of Corona Virus that has just been discovered.

The Omicron variant was first detected in South Africa. Quoting the covid19.go.id page, Omicron has been detected in several countries since it was first discovered on the African continent. This variant is said to be one that transmits the virus very quickly. The World Health Organization (WHO) stated that the B.1.1.529 or Omicron variant was first reported to WHO from South Africa on November 24 2021.

There are several symptoms of the Omicron variant of COVID-19 that are important for you to recognize, including:

1. Dry cough, sore throat, itchy throat (the most common complaints)
2. Feeling exhausted or tired easily
3. Blocked/runny nose
4. Fever
5. Headache
6. Other symptoms, but rare, are nausea and vomiting, shortness of breath, fever and diarrhea

However, these symptoms are more likely to occur in high-risk groups, such as the elderly, people who have not received the COVID-19 vaccine, or people who suffer from comorbid diseases.

Things that need to be done when dealing with Omicron variants :

1. People who are eligible to be vaccinated immediately undergo complete COVID-19 vaccination (two doses) at the nearest vaccination service center.

2. The entire community always applies health protocols:

• Wear a mask
• Keep the distance
• Washing hands
• Do not travel if it is not urgent (including trips abroad
• Avoid crowds
• Limiting mobilization.

3. Consume fruit high in Vitamin C

4. Eat nutritious food

5. Maintain a healthy lifestyle & exercise

6. Check yourself at a health facility if you have symptoms.
