The Health Benefits of Fasting During Ramadan for Pregnant Women

Fasting during Ramadan is still recommended for pregnant women as long as it does not endanger the condition of the fetus, so it is advisable for pregnant women to consult with their obstetrician beforehand.

By paying attention to nutritional intake, fasting can provide many health benefits for pregnant women and their babies. These benefits include:

  1. Avoiding Morning Sickness
    Morning sickness is a symptom of nausea and vomiting that occurs in pregnant women, typically in the morning. This condition is caused by an increase in stomach acid during the morning, which makes the mother feel nauseous.
  2. Helps Burn Body Fat
    Another benefit of fasting for pregnant women is the ability to burn unnecessary fat in the body. Excess fat can lead to negative effects, such as causing obesity. If a pregnant woman becomes obese, it may hinder the delivery process.
  3. Aids in Detoxification
    Fasting is also very useful in eliminating toxins from the body. When the body does not receive food intake for a certain period, it will work to eliminate harmful and unnecessary substances from the body.
  4. Prevents High Cholesterol
    High cholesterol is a gateway to various chronic diseases, which can be very harmful to the baby's health in the womb. By fasting, cholesterol levels in the blood can remain low and stable.
  5. Helps Regulate Blood Sugar Levels
    During pregnancy, mothers must be able to regulate their blood sugar levels to keep them stable. Fasting can help maintain stable blood sugar levels.
