Drinking Too Much Water Is Not Good Either
Meeting the body's fluid needs does not mean drinking excessively. Overhydration can also trigger negative effects, one of which is hyponatremia or water intoxication. This condition occurs due to low sodium levels in the body. Hyponatremia can cause several physical symptoms, ranging from confusion, nausea, and headaches to seizures.
Not Feeling Thirsty Doesn’t Mean You’re Not Dehydrated
Thirst does not always correlate with hydration. A better way to determine if you’re drinking enough fluid is by checking the color of your urine. If your water intake is sufficient, you should urinate every few hours. If not, you are likely not drinking enough water.
Everyone’s Daily Fluid Intake Is Different
Water consumption varies greatly from person to person. It is determined by age, race or ethnicity, socioeconomic status, and behavioral characteristics. Body weight also plays a role. The heavier the weight, the higher the daily fluid requirement. Therefore, it’s not always 8 glasses a day; this is merely the minimum recommended number.
Dehydration Isn’t Always Cured by Drinking More Water
Treating dehydration in older adults depends on the individual and their symptoms. It depends on whether the dehydration is mild, moderate, or severe.
Sometimes There’s Fluoride Content in Bottled Water
There has been news that fluoride can have negative effects on health. However, this is not entirely true. Fluoride is a natural mineral that is essential for maintaining dental and bone health. Fluoride in bottled water helps protect teeth from cavities and plaque buildup. The maximum allowable fluoride limit in packaged beverages is only 1.5 milligrams per day. Negative effects will only arise if fluoride is consumed excessively.
