Acid reflux can occur quickly due to various causes. It can be triggered by the food you just ate, insufficient sleep, or even stress. If not treated promptly, acid reflux can disrupt your activities. It’s possible it could lead to prolonged discomfort and complications that result in more serious health issues.
How to Overcome Acid Reflux or GERD:
Drink warm water
The first way to treat GERD is by drinking warm water. Try drinking warm water slowly. This can help neutralize the rising stomach acid and ease the discomfort in your throat and stomach. Continue drinking warm water for several minutes.
Take antacid medication
If you’ve had a GERD attack before, you might have a stock of antacid medication. Take an antacid immediately to neutralize the unpleasant sensation. If you need a recommendation for an antacid, you can contact your doctor.
Baking soda
Next, you can use a natural remedy to treat GERD, such as baking soda. Baking soda (sodium bicarbonate) can quickly neutralize stomach acid and relieve digestive disturbances, bloating, and gas after meals. Dissolve 1/2 teaspoon of baking soda in a glass of warm water, then drink it. Drinking large amounts of baking soda can cause some unwanted side effects, such as constipation, diarrhea, vomiting, and muscle cramps. So, make sure to do this only occasionally within a two-hour period.
Ginger tea
In addition to the options mentioned earlier, you can also treat acid reflux with ginger tea. The herbal plant ginger is another natural remedy for digestive problems as it can relieve acid reflux. You can boil ginger and drink the water. You can also add lemon juice or honey for flavor. Lemon and honey not only act as flavor enhancers but are also effective in reducing inflammation, including inflammation in the stomach.
Lie with your head elevated
Sometimes, GERD may not improve immediately. If this happens, you can alleviate it by adjusting your sleeping position. When lying down, make sure your head is elevated to prevent stomach acid from rising into your throat."
