The Dangers of E-Cigarettes

Although vape contains many harmful chemicals, it seems that many people still underestimate the negative impact of this unhealthy lifestyle.

You should be careful, because behind its addictive taste, vaping contains various negative effects on the body, such as:

1. Popcorn Lung
   "Popcorn lung" or bronchiolitis obliterans (BO) is a rare condition caused by lung damage that leads to narrowing of the airways. The substance that causes this disease is diacetyl. Diacetyl is often added to flavored e-liquids to enhance taste. Inhaling diacetyl causes inflammation and permanent scarring of the smallest branches of the airways or bronchioles. If inflammation occurs in the bronchioles, it can lead to difficulty breathing.
2. Lipoid Pneumonia
   Lipoid pneumonia is a condition where fatty acids enter the lungs. It occurs due to inhaling oily substances found in vape e-liquids, which trigger an inflammatory response in the lungs.
3. Primary Spontaneous Pneumothorax (Collapsed Lung)
   Primary spontaneous pneumothorax, or a collapsed lung, happens when there is a hole in the lung that allows oxygen to escape. Smoking and vaping can increase the risk of lung collapse.
4. Affects Behavior and Mental Health
   Vapes clearly contain nicotine, which is an addictive substance. When someone becomes addicted to nicotine and tries to stop using it, their body and brain must adjust to functioning without nicotine. This can affect a person's mood and behavior. For example, they may become easily irritated, restless, anxious or depressed, have trouble sleeping, difficulty concentrating, and experience nicotine cravings.
5. Affects Dental and Gum Health
   In addition to the respiratory system, vaping also affects dental and gum health. According to a study reported in 2018, exposure to vape aerosol can make tooth surfaces more vulnerable to bacterial growth. Another study also stated that vaping can trigger irritation in the gums and mouth.
