Disturbed Vision, What is the Cause?

Do you feel like your vision is not sharp enough and you need to squint to see things clearly? if yes, then you could be experiencing blurry eyes.

Here are some of the most common things that often cause blurry vision.

1. Eye Refractive Disorders
Blurred or hazy eyes can be caused by various refractive eye problems, or the process of light entering from the front of the eye to be refracted precisely on the retina. Some eye refraction problems related to blurry eyes include nearsightedness (myopia), farsightedness (hyperopia), and presbyopia.

2. Eye Infection
Usually, eye infections can be caused by bacteria, fungi, or viruses, which enter or spread to the eye, causing inflammation.

3. Dry Eyes
Eyes that are not properly lubricated are very susceptible to irritation or itching so that your vision becomes blurry. For this case, using eye drops is the right solution.

4. Corneal Abrasion
Chorean abrasion is a condition when there are small scratches on the cornea of the eye. Scratches on the cornea can then cause sore eyes, red eyes, and blurred vision.

5. Optical Neurology
Optic neuritis is a vision problem caused by inflammation of the optic nerve of the eye.

6. Cataract
Cataract is an eye disease that causes a cloudy area to appear on the lens of the eye. This condition generally occurs in people who are elderly or over 40 years old.

7. Diabetic Retinopathy
Diabetic retinopathy is an eye disorder experienced by diabetes sufferers, where high sugar levels cause damage to the blood vessels of the eye's retina.

8. Strokes
Changes in visual ability are one of the signs of the onset of stroke. Sometimes, stroke sufferers will experience vision problems including blurry eyes due to damage to the optic nerve which functions to carry information to the eye.

9. Retinitis Pigmentosa
Retinitis pigmentosa is a rare genetic disorder of the eye that can cause damage to the retina cells of the eye.

10. Central Serous Retinopathy
Central Serous Retinopathy is a condition in which fluid leaks from the tissue layer under the retina. This fluid can accumulate in the retinal layer and cause swelling in the area.

How to Overcome Blurred Eyes

  • Perform regular eye examinations to maintain the quality of your vision

  • Use blue light glasses when working or watching/staring at a monitor screen

  • Use sunglasses or Transitions lenses when in the sun

  • Consume Vitamins C, E, zinc and omega 3 fatty acids for eye health such as oysters, fish, leafy vegetables such as kale, orange juice, nuts and eggs.

How to Treat Blurry Eyes
Blurry eyes can be treated according to the cause. If the cause is mild, such as dry eyes, itching or a foreign object, then it can still be treated naturally. However, if the cause of blurry eyes requires medical treatment, of course treating it in the right way is very necessary. Some ways to treat blurry eyes:

  • Consult an eye doctor to get further treatment information

  • Use eye drops that are officially registered with a health institution/government POM agency

  • Stop wearing contact lenses temporarily
